Coronation Street’s latest hard-hitting storyline recently came to a head when Bethany Platt was saved from a horrific gang rape planned by gang-leader Nathan Curtis.
The long-running storyline, which has covered the sensitive subject of grooming, began back in 2016 when Nathan discovered Bethany in tears one day before she passed out from an overdose of diet pills. Realising that Bethany was in a very vulnerable state, Nathan took her under his wing and they quickly began to form a relationship.
The rest of the Platt family were immediately suspicious of Nathan’s intentions, particularly as there was a huge age gap, but Bethany wouldn’t listen to their warnings. However, when character Shona Ramsey recently discovered the identity of Bethany’s boyfriend, she instantly knew that the vulnerable teenager was in danger. Shona herself was abused by Nathan when she was younger but managed to get away.
After her worrying discovery, Shona confronts Nathan, warning him to stay away from Bethany. But Nathan is riled by this confrontation and sends two of his gang mates to follow Shona back the Street where she is brutally attacked and left for dead. Shona is soon found by Craig who calls for an ambulance, but when she regains consciousness, Shona runs back to the Street to get David to help save Bethany.
Thankfully, Bethany is pulled from Nathan’s clutches just in time, but soon afterwards Shona collapses and is rushed to hospital in a critical condition. She’s immediately admitted to intensive care and undergoes emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen.
Helping to make this dramatic storyline true to life, Medical Hire were asked to supply medical props and hospital equipment. A&E equipment was supplied for Shona’s admission to hospital, followed by Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipment including a heart monitor and a ventilator.
Shona’s dramatic storyline continues this week after David’s discovery that Shona is the mother of his late wife Kylie’s killer.
