After a year and half away from our screens, Corrie’s much-loved character Carla Connor returned to the cobbles back in December, just in time for the Christmas festivities. But she was hiding a big secret – that she was suffering from kidney failure.
After weeks of trying to hide her illness, Carla’s condition started to rapidly worsen and at the end of January, she was forced to reveal to her family that she needed a kidney transplant.
The search for a donor began and her half-brother and sister came forward for testing. Her half-brother, Aiden, was found to be the perfect match, so at the end for February, viewers saw the transplant take place. First Aiden was taken into theatre to have his healthy kidney removed, followed quickly by Carla to receive the kidney which would save her life.
Continuing their successful long-term working relationship, Medical Hire were once again invited to be involved in the filming of another fantastic Coronation Street storyline. The team provided a wide range of hospital equipment and medical props including hospital beds, bed accessories, drips and syringe drivers, monitors, and a range of consumables. Props were needed for filming scenes with both characters in parallel, so the finished programme looked as realistic as possible.
