We have very fond memories of working on the medical drama, Maternal, so a bit over a year on, we thought we’d look back at how we supported this fantastic production.
An ITV creation, Maternal aired early in 2023. The series consisted of 6 episodes and followed the lives of 3 doctors returning to medicine after maternity leave.
Following the frantic first nursery drop-offs and return to work training, the doctors were thrown straight back in to their hectic jobs, whilst juggling motherhood, relationships, and the desire for promotion. It was the perfect recipe for drama and the episodes didn’t disappoint.
It was also an exciting project behind the scenes for us at Medical Hire. We supplied a vast collection of medical equipment and props, and our team of medical advisors were heavily involved – both behind the camera and in front!
With the series set in a hospital and different medical scenarios being portrayed every episode, a continuous supply of medical props and equipment was required. In fact, it was on of the biggest projects that Medical Hire had been involved in.
We helped to set up and furnish…
- Maternity and delivery rooms
- Neonatal intensive care unit
- A&E department
- Hospital corridors
- General ward areas
We supplied a vast range of props and equipment including…
- Machines and monitors – ventilators, vital signs monitors
- Drips and syringe drivers – plus fluid bags and accessories
- Hospital furniture and fixtures – beds, chairs, lights, wall panels, overbed tables
- Medical trolleys – A&E, dressing trolleys, patient notes trolley
- Wheelchairs – a variety of manual wheelchairs
- Paramedic equipment – stretchers, paramedic bags
- Maternity equipment – ultrasound machine, Entonox, delivery equipment
…and much more.
Our medical advisors also played an incredibly important role in supporting the cast and crew during filming. It was crucial to make sure that each and every medical scenario was portrayed accurately, and our team were there to guide the cast every step of the way. With accuracy such an important part of the production, one of our medical advisors even had a spot in front of the camera!
We absolutely loved working on Maternal and do hope that it returns for a 2nd series sometime in the future.
