To commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, BBC Two recently aired a one-off drama which showed how Diana’s death impacted the lives of ordinary people.
In a feature-length programme, Diana and I followed the stories of four fictional characters and how they were affected from the moment they heard the tragic news up until Diana’s funeral a week later.
One of the stories was about an estranged father and son – Colin (played by Neil Morrisey – pictured above) and 19-year old Jack (played by Nico Mirallegro). Their relationship had been strained since Colin split from his ex-wife and had married a new partner, Clare. Turning his world even further upside-down, Jack’s mother was sadly dying of cancer and passes away at the exact same moment that the news of Diana’s death breaks. Jack’s father Colin offers very little support to Jack as he is pre-occupied with his new partner who is distraught with the news of Diana, but both tragedies eventually bring the father and son back closer together.
