The storyline commenced during the summer of 2015 when Hope – the daughter of Fiz and Tyrone – became ill whilst on a camping trip. Following a series of tests and a biopsy, medics revealed that Hope had cancer, after which she attended hospital regularly to undergo treatment.

Helping the scriptwriters to ensure the hard-hitting storyline was portrayed as accurately as possible, the Medial Hire team became involved early-on. Through their network of paediatric nurses and oncology advisors, the Corrie team were provided with professional expertise and advice on cancer treatment wards and equipment.

Medical Hire were also involved in the set design – a crucial element to ensure authenticity of the storyline. The team provided an array of imagery of children’s oncology wards including detailed advice on hospital furniture and cancer treatment equipment to accurately furnish the set.

The Coronation Street storyline is the first of a number of cancer-related storylines that Medical Hire have been privileged to have been involved in and marks the launch of a new range of specialist medical equipment and TV props for hire.
