Well-known for their hard-hitting storylines, both British soaps filmed their latest dramatic scenes at exactly the same time back in the summer.

On Coronation Street, David Platt’s revenge on wife Kylie’s killer, takes a dramatic turn for the worse when a car crash results in Anna Windass sustaining third degree burns. At the same time, long-running character Ken Barlow suffers a stroke following an argument with his son Peter and is rushed to hospital for immediate care.

Meanwhile on Emmerdale, a week of special episodes, which focus on the stories of some of the key characters, culminates in huge horror car crash which leaves Rhona, Aaron and James fighting for their lives – but one of them doesn’t make it.

Medical Hire, who have worked with both Coronation and Emmerdale for many years, were delighted to once again be appointed to supply medical props and equipment for these dramatic new stories.

With a vast range of specialist equipment including paramedic and A&E apparatus, hospital beds and furniture, ICU equipment and monitors, Medical Hire were well-equipped to supply the two soaps with everything that they needed to make their storylines true-to-life. All equipment was delivered on-time to meet stringent filming schedules and set-up to the required specifications to ensure complete authenticity.

In addition to providing medical equipment, Medical Hire also supported the production team and actors with professional advice throughout filming. Medical advisors were present on-set to provide the Corrie team with specialist burns and ICU advice, whilst the Emmerdale team were supported with advice on A&E treatment including the precise operation of monitors and specialist machinery.

The Coronation Street storyline continues this week whilst the villagers of Emmerdale come to terms with the aftermath of the devastation.
